# Patient Identity Management Evaluation Framework

As patient identity management (PIM) systems are being planned and implemented globally, efforts are increasingly focused on evaluating and improving the performance of those systems to enhance their utility and efficiency.

This framework covers multiple aspects of the patient matching process and is meant to assist system evaluators, whether assessing their own system or conducting an assessment as consultants. By identifying key performance indicators and technological gaps, the framework will help guide the development of strategic recommendations to enhance system capabilities, improve patient data accuracy, and strengthen PIM scalability and security.

The evaluation framework is designed to support, but not limited to the following uses:

| **Project Stages** | **Framework Uses** |
| ------------------------------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Project Teams implementing Patient Identity Management | The framework can be used to help identify key aspects of identity management to consider when implementing. |
| Project Teams with existing PIM implementations | The PIM Evaluation Framework can serve as a guide for capturing the information needed to inform a strategy for strengthening matching practices and capabilities. |
