Future Developments

The field of biometrics is continually evolving as new technologies and software are produced and studies are conducted. In the review, Health Care Can Learn From Global Use of Biometrics, topics for future discussion and developments in the use of biometrics in healthcare in the US from themes identified globally. Topics included implementation concerns, interoperability, benefits, privacy, and adoption approaches.31

DUC presenters who have implemented biometrics are looking to expand, continuing discussions with other types of facilities, working on refining processes to make them more efficient, and continuing to engage with partners.13,14,15,16 DUC presenters who are considering biometrics have done comparisons and are looking towards the next steps in biometric system implementation.19
